I miss my old neighborhood in Highland Park where everyone knew their neighbor. The good ones and the bad ones. Where kids played down at Hemlock School till supper time. Where Eastside Junior High actually still stood. Where Central High was in town not out in the country. I miss fast bike rides through the Brainerd tunnels. Hopping the neighborhood freight train moving through Highland Park on Saturday morning and riding it for half a day. Sneaking to the top of the hill in National Cemetery late at night to prove you were brave. Fishing for coy in the ponds at Warner Park by the rose gardens. Swimming in Boys Lake out near the dam and feeling the mud between your toes. Riding the boat shut at Lake Winnie and getting wet. I miss the people who have just disappeared. ---- Dale
