Five excellent albums to blare during the summer

As we near the sweltering heat that is summer in Chattanooga, I thought I might share some albums that I seem to dust off in the warm weather. To me, a good summer album should consist of songs that have limitless hooks and catchy melodies. Summer isn’t the time for quiet contemplation or dark brooding. This is the time of year to embrace living and sing at the top of your lungs to whoever might be listening. I picture rays of sunshine, car windows rolled down, summer dresses and a million people not giving a damn about being sweaty and unattractive for just a few months. These are my summer albums. What are yours?

Five warm weather fragrances for guys that aren't Acqua di Gio

So, about three nights a week, I’ll be walking downtown, and I'll pass a group of guys and catch the unmistakable presence of Acqua di Gio. There has been a marketing campaign for years that this fragrance is all a guy will ever need. It’s a simple citrus/Marine scent that at its best is just mildly interesting and clean-smelling. Unfortunately, because the scent is in such widespread use, it essentially becomes dull. Why would you want to smell like every other guy? As a bit of a collector of fragrances, I thought it might be nice to let you guys in on some other options. Feel free to add your suggestions below.

Five "romantic" ideas for guys

When I was in my early college days, the Internet was a great way to research relationship advice. It turns out that much of this advice was written by pseudo-intellectuals, bloggers and even, in one case, a leader of a nudist colony whose e-book included graphic pictures of his elderly genitals. There are .pdf files available ranging in topic from the naive "How to Kiss a Girl Proper" to the more deviantly sexually "A Rough Guide to Anal Play," which, as I found out, is very, very rough indeed.

Five somewhat unique Mother's Day gift ideas

Mother’s Day is upon us once again, and if you’re like me (I hope you’re not), then we once again face that yearly struggle of what to get Mom to show our appreciation for her having birthed us. I always try to at least make an appearance on the day and usually bring along a mass-produced greeting card or a small bouquet of flowers. It all seems a trivial gesture, though, when stacked against her now-29-years of unwavering love, financial support and cookies. However, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to what might make a good Mother’s Day gift, and this is what I’ve come up with. Any suggestions are welcome. This gift-giving business is honestly a bit out of my wheelhouse of expertise.

Five of Chattanooga's most underrated places of interest

In my previous list of Chattanoogas most overrated places of interest, there really werent any surprises. Choosing a list of five underrated places is a tad more complex. Anyway, here they are. What are yours?

A public display of accusations

Thomas McConnell has returned to his position as a deacon at St. Jude Catholic Church and has been reinstated as the JROTC leader for Hamilton County schools. A retired United States Army colonel, McConnell had previously been suspended by both the church and the school system after being arrested and charged with the sexual battery of his 5-year-old granddaughter.
