UTC assistant coach Rick Cabrera leaving Mocs, heading to Tennessee Tech

Chattanooga assistant coach Rick Cabrera, picture left, is leaving UTC to take an assistant coaching position at Tennessee Tech after four seasons alongside Mocs head coach John Shulman. Following four seasons alongside UTC head coach John Shulman, assistant coach Rick Cabrera is returning to his alma mater as an assistant coach at Tennessee Tech. Report: UTC signs UGA transfer Derrick Lott

Former Georgia defensive tackle Derrick Lott signed with Chattanooga last week and will have two years of eligibility remaining as a member of the Mocs, according to a report from the Times Free Press. Lott played five games in two seasons with the Bulldogs, recording 10 tackles, including 1.5 for loss. The Kennesaw, Ga., native redshirted his first year in 2009, played three games as a freshman in 2010 and was hindered by a leg injury in 2011, limiting him to just two games. Lott was a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and a three-star prospect by Scout.com coming out of North Cobb High School. UTC softball ends season with loss in SoCon tournament

With six runs in the sixth inning Saturday afternoon in the semifinal of the Southern Conference Championship, the UTC softball team looked poised to continue a record-breaking offensive season. The Lady Mocs needed to win three games in a day to claim their fourth title in five years in Boone, N.C., but a 6-0 lead after the top of the sixth seemed secure and a rematch with top-seeded Georgia Southern appeared imminent. Then College of Charleston responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth and got two more in the seventh to walk off with a 7-6 win. It brought an end to Chattanoogas season and the career of three seniors, including two-time SoCon player of the year, Michelle Fuzzard.
