Jeremy Acree was added to the Nooga.com staff in August 2011 as a sports reporter and high school editor. In addition to being the lead sports reporter for all things high school, he will also cover some University of Tennessee Chattanooga sports. While attending UTC from 2006-10, Acree worked as a freelance reporter for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, was the managing editor with the University Echo and ultimately landed as an intern at The Tennessean, writing features and covering high school athletics. Upon graduating in 2010, Acree spent ten months serving with AmeriCorps NCCC. During that time he worked with the U.S. Forest Service as a Wildland Firefighter in the Pike/San Isabel National Forest.

Baylor senior John Tipton hit a two-run home run and pitched seven scoreless innings in the first game of a doubleheader at Baylor Friday. The Red Raiders beat Brentwood Academy 2-0, then lost the second game, 4-0. At about 445 p.m. Friday afternoon at Baylor, John Tipton drove a ball over the left field fence to give the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead over Brentwood Academy in the first game of a Division II-AA quarterfinal series. The Big 12 and the Southeastern conferences have announced a deal that will pit their football regular-season champions against each other in a New Year's Day bowl game for five years beginning in 2014, positioning themselves for the expected switch to a four-team playoff. Red Bank junior Hagen Wilkey has earned four of the Lions' six wins since the postseason began. Red Bank plays Livingston Academy Saturday, with a spot in the state tournament on the line. Hagen Wilkeys start on April 30 at Ooltewah typified Red Banks final two weeks of the regular season. In two innings, he gave up nine runs on nine hits to one of the best Class AAA teams in the area.
