As a bit of a joke in one of my recent opinion columns, I compiled a list of five gifts my rich friends could buy me for Christmas.

The list was, as most of my lists are, intended as a joke. I listed a coffee table that looks as if it’s taking a pee on a rug, an elaborate cat treehouse, and Elmo and Cookie Monster costumes I found listed on eBay.

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to actually receive one of these items, but lo and behold, a box arrived to the Nooga.com office with my name on it.

Ted Alling, a managing partner for Lamp Post Group (Nooga.com is a startup underneath the Lamp Post umbrella), purchased for me an inflatable car bed from China. It’s kind of an inflatable mattress for your backseat, so you can nap or "whatever."

Thank you, Ted, for such a thoughtful surprise. I have kept the bed inflated all week and plan to spend many a company hour napping away in the parking lot.
