I love to sing. And I’ve been known—on occasion—to try to force others to sing with me.

And in recent years, I’ve found a lot of holiday joy in coercing my sometimes-cynical, camera-shy journalist co-workers into participating in "The 12 Days of Christmas," newsroom style.

The first rendition of this idea happened when I was a reporter at the Chattanooga Times Free Press in 2008. Click here to see us singing! (Yep, that’s right—I just used an exclamation point. It’s freaking CHRISTMAS!)

The next year, when I moved to Knoxville and started work at the Maryville Daily Times, I took the idea with me there.

Sure, I was the new girl, but what better way to endear myself to my new co-workers?! Ha.

Click here to see that version, which is different from the one we did at the Times Free Press.

This year, before I even broached the topic of trying this in Nooga’s newsroom, I knew what the answer would be.

The answer was no.

And it wasn’t a no like I’d gotten at other places.

Other years, I could tell there was some interest and that people felt like there could be safety in numbers. They were willing to do it if plenty of others would, too—and they just needed a little persuading.

That wasn’t the case this year. So, sadly (or fortunately?), you won’t see a video of Nooga employees singing.

But that isn’t stopping me from writing a new version.

This time, to broaden the appeal, I’m making it Chattanooga-oriented. It’s all in good fun, as I do love my city.

So I present to you "The 12 Days of Christmas," Chattanooga style.
