A blog post from the The Public Library offers five titles from 2013 that may have fallen under your radar.

Cathy Royal is the #mynextread librarian. As the popular material specialist for the library, her job is to take the dollars available at the library and use them to purchase the material people will want to check out.

On Thursdays in December, Royal will offer her gift-finding skills throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Royal's list of books includes the funny and observant debut novel from Thea Goodman.
