The Chattanooga women’s basketball team improved to 6-3 on the season with Tuesday night’s 68-53 win over Jacksonville State at the Pete Matthews Coliseum, as seniors Ashlen Dewart and Taylor Hall each came up big in the comfortable victory.

“I thought we played a lot harder in the second half with a lot more consistency,” UTC head coach Jim Foster said. “We were a lot more selective about what we were going to do. They had a problem matching up with Ashlen and we took advantage of that.”

Dewart, the preseason Southern Conference Player of the Year, notched her first double-double of the season Tuesday with a season-best 25 point and 10 rebounds, and the 6-foot-3 senior shot a surprising 3 of 4 from three-point range.

“I think we definitely had a mismatch inside today and I thought our guards did a great job of feeding it to us,” Dewart said. “The guards feeding me on the inside and the three really boosted me tonight ... I like shooting the three, and Coach Foster is happy as long as I hit them.”

Hall came up just shy of a triple-double, posting 10 points, 11 boards and a career-best eight assists.

“Taylor is a very good passer,” Foster said. “She gets a lot of touches and a lot more opportunities to make plays with good ball movement. She has a lot of great attributes and skills that sort of blend into what we’re doing.”

Senior Meghan Downs also scored in double figures, finishing 10 points.

The Lady Mocs return to action Saturday with a trip to Greensboro, N.C., where they'll face the Spartans in their SoCon opener. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
