The best from Week 10
Senior Jim Cardwell, Boyd-Buchanan
Cardwell didn’t have the greatest of stat lines on Friday, but the senior signal caller pretty much carried the Buccaneers to a 22-21 win over District 5-A foe and the previously unbeaten Silverdale Seahawks, clinching the league title in the process. The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder finished with just 119 yards of total offense, fumbled and threw an interception in the hard-fought victory, but Cardwell accounted for all three of Boyd's touchdowns, including the eventual game-winner — a 9-yard TD pass to teammate Jack Keebler in overtime.
Junior Auston Banks, Notre Dame
Banks ran for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns in the Fighting Irish’s regular-season finale on Friday. The junior running back, who carried the ball just 12 times in the 41-0 thrashing of fellow 7-AA school Grundy County, finished with 191 yards on the ground with touchdown runs of 3, 61 and 75 yards.
Senior Tony Francois, East Hamilton
Francois had another huge night for the Hurricanes, who clinched a share of the District 5-AAA title on Friday by throttling Bradley Central 41-11. The senior wide receiver hauled in just four receptions, but scored on three of those, finishing the game with 181 yards.
Senior JaJuan Lankford, South Pittsburg
The Pirates secured the District 6-A title with Friday’s 35-17 win over former one-loss team Marion County, and senior running back JaJuan Lankford had a huge game. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound piled up 220 yards rushing and two TDs, including a 57-yard first-half score.
Sophomore Dominique Millener, East Ridge
Millener accounted for nearly 200 yards of offense and three total touchdowns in the Pioneers’ regular-season finale against Howard. The sophomore running back finished with 103 yards on the ground to help the Pioneers finish the season at 5-5, and he also racked up 90 yards receiving in the lopsided win.
