The best from Week 9:
Senior James McLellan, Signal Mountain
The Eagles were beaten for the first time in three weeks Friday, suffering a 47-20 setback to unbeaten Greeneville, but fullback James McLellan had quite a night. The bruising ball carrier churned out nearly 200 yards and a touchdown in Signal Mountain’s non-district loss to the Greene Devils.
Junior Kareem Orr, Notre Dame
Orr turned in his third straight star-worthy performance on Friday, hauling in eight receptions for 170 yards in the Fighting Irish’s non-district win over Coalfield. The 6-foot, 184-pounder also finished with two touchdown catches in his team’s 21-14 victory, increasing his three-week totals to 23 receptions, 455 yards and five scores.
Senior Jim Cardwell, Boyd-Buchanan
The Buccaneers suffered yet another defeat on Friday, falling to 7-AA school Sequatchie County, but senior signal caller Jim Cardwell certainly wasn’t to blame. The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder completed over 70 percent of his throws for 265 yards and two touchdowns against the Indians, and also added a two-point conversion.
Senior Austin Herink, Cleveland
Herink completed 18-of-25 pass attempts for 212 yards and two touchdowns in the Blue Raiders’ 26-21 win over District 5-AAA foe Ooltewah. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder connected with teammate Tyler Davis on a 95-yard, second-quarter touchdown pass before finding senior D.J. Jones on a short middle screen for six.
Senior Rafael Gaglianone, Baylor
The Red Raiders suffered their third straight loss on Friday, falling to three-time defending state champions Ensworth 16-9. Senior kicker Rafael Gaglianone had a very nice game for Baylor, though. Gaglianone accounted for all nine Red Raider points in the contest, connecting on field goal attempts from 57, 40 and 49 yards out.
