At today's Rotary Club meeting, CEO of Krystal Doug Pendergast is expected to announce a new museum collection and scholarship.
"Our founders were entrepreneurs who started their restaurant in the midst of the Great Depression," Pendergast said in a prepared statement. "We believe it is important to honor their spirit of determination by supporting students who are beginning their own journey. Supporting the College of Business at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is a real honor for us, and we are very pleased to endow this scholarship."
UTC's College of Business will be the home of the new Krystal Museum Collection, which will have historical memorabilia from the company.
Additional significant historical memorabilia from the company will go on permanent display and rotation at the university’s library and will be archived to encourage study of the brand.
Pendergast is also expected to announce the Krystal Scholarship, which will be given annually to a student in UTC's College of Business. The scholarship will be for $2,000 a year for one student.
"We are very grateful for our partnership with Krystal," UTC Chancellor Steve Angle said in a prepared statement. "The company's generous donation will support our commitment to student success and strengthens our ties to the Chattanooga community."
Pendergast is scheduled to make the announcement at the noon event Thursday, which coincides with the 81st anniversary of the Krystal brand.
The restaurant chain will offer 25 cent Krystals today from 7-11 p.m. in celebration of the chain's anniversary.
"This is a momentous day for the Krystal brand," Pendergast said. "We couldn’t be more thrilled to be spending it in the special city that gave us our start."
A little more than a year ago, Krystal leaders announced its corporate headquarters would move from Chattanooga to Atlanta under new ownership. Click here for that story.
