Artists who are in the early stages of their careers are encouraged to submit an application for the Emerging Artist Program by Nov. 1.
The 4 Bridges Arts Festival is a nationally recognized arts fair in Chattanooga set for April 12-13.
Additionally, an open call for the 150 artist spots has also begun.
Each year, artists from across the nation compete for coveted booth space by submitting their artwork to a panel of jurors. The jurors then narrow the applicants down to about 150 artists for participation in the festival.
Though many of the spots are only available to seasoned artists, the Association for Visual Arts awards six emerging artists an opportunity to gain entry.
The Emerging Artist Program is open to artists who are just beginning their careers and have a recent body of work, but have never participated in a solo show, been represented by a commercial gallery, or have minimal experience selling their art.

Kathryn Dunn, AVA’s major projects manager, said 2014 will be the 11th year for the program and that every year it gets more competitive.
"This is a hot ticket," she said. "The scholarship basically means you get a free booth."
And a free booth can provide access to nearly 12,000 attendees, including novice buyers, existing collectors, museum and gallery patrons, and the general public. Artists will also compete for $10,000 in merit awards on-site.
But in order to be selected, artists have to go through the application process and jury selection.
What does an artist need to apply? Dunn said presentation is everything.
"You don’t need a well-developed background," she said. "But the résumé is everything. [The jurors] are looking at technical competence, and some of it may purely be subjective."
Requirements include five photos: Four images must represent the complete range of work. The fifth image must represent how your work will be displayed.
The application fee is $40.
According to a statement from festival organizers, "Exhibitors will be chosen based on overall artistic excellence (skill, creativity, aesthetic sensibility). There are no mandated quotas for any particular category."

Updated @ 11:13 a.m. on 10/24/13 to correct a factual error: The deadline is Nov. 1, not Nov. 2, as originally reported; and the festival will be April 12-13, not April 12-14, as originally reported.
