The best from Week 8:
Senior Austin Herink, Cleveland
Herink has experienced plenty of success this season, but the senior signal caller had arguably his best game of 2013 on Friday at Walker Valley. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder completed an impressive 18-of-21 pass attempts for 352 yards and five scores through the air. Herink, who accounted for 472 total yards, also ran for a touchdown in the 48-14 win over the Mustangs.
Senior James McLellan, Signal Mountain
The Eagles and bruising fullback James McLellan had absolutely no problem with lowly Chattanooga Christian on Friday, rolling to a 67-13 win. McClellan, who found the end zone four times Friday, finished with 189 yards on 13 carries against the Chargers.
Junior Kareem Orr, Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish got back in the win column Friday, cruising to a shutout victory over District 7-AA foe Sequatchie County. Junior wide receiver Kareem Orr had another huge game, too, hauling in six receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns in Notre Dame’s 34-0 win over the Indians.
Senior Kedrick Bradley, Hixson
Bradley once again eclipsed the century mark in Hixson’s 23-0 win over rival Red Bank on Friday — the team’s fourth straight. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder, who's closing in on the 1,000-yard mark for the season, totaled 122 yards a score in the lopsided victory, while teammate Isaiah Robinson contributed 70 yards and a touchdown.
Junior Austin Jackson, Boyd-Buchanan
It’s been a rather rough season for the 3-5 Buccaneers, but Boyd came out on the winning side Friday against District 5-A Copper Basin. Junior running back Austin Jackson came up big, too. The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder piled up 164 yards on 20 carries, and he scored the eventual game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
