Area sportsmen and conservationists are looking forward to Thursday night's (Oct. 3) annual Chattanooga Ducks Unlimited Fall Flight Banquet.
DU planning committee member Aaron Schoolfield said that this year's auction and raffle prizes are the best he has ever seen. They include a Browning A-5 shotgun, a rare DU Edition Benelli Super Vinci (there are only 100 of these in the country), a Fausti Silvery Over/Under (DU Shotgun of the Year), Para USA Elite Commander 1911 (DU Handgun of the Year), a DU Edition Remington Henry "Golden Boy" Silverado 22 rifle, a custom-made bar from Jack Daniels and a guided duck hunt (auction). Also up for grabs is a "goose package" that includes a G3 Jon Boat, Yamaha motor and decoys (raffle).
"Once again, we are fortunate to have the Possum Hunter's Bluegrass Band and caterer Burton's Taste of New Orleans at our event," Area Chairman Bob Bezkor said. "They help make it a great night for all."
The doors at the First Tennessee Pavilion next to Finley Stadium open at 5:30 Thursday. You can preorder by calling Bezkor at 423-208-8480, or you can go here to buy tickets online.
The event is sponsored by Mountain View Ford, as well as Sportsman's Warehouse, Tony Sander's Outdoors, Nichols Marine and Blowing Springs Kennel.
The Chattanooga Ducks Unlimited chapter has consistently been named a top 100 DU chapter in the country. Recently, in cooperation with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials, the members of the group finished up work on a special "handicapped-only" duck hunting blind on the North Chickamauga Wildlife Management Area.
"Thanks to all the DU folks for a continued great working relationship," TWRA Executive Director Ed Carter said. "We believe this is going to be a continuing great program, and we really appreciate the partnership in making it a community project."
Wildlife Commissioner Harold Canon added, "Thanks to Chattanooga DU for making this a real place to hunt for our friends in wheelchairs … it rivals any blind that I have seen in Arkansas!"
