Seasonal burning begins Tuesday, Oct. 1 for residents of Hamilton County who obtain a valid permit.
The Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau issues permits to burn brush and vegetation on approved days until April 30.
To obtain a permit, click here, call 423-643-5970 or go to 6125 Preservation Drive, Suite 140.
Burning sites within city limits will require a $50 fee and an inspection. Those outside city limits cost $5 and typically do not require an inspection, according to the Air Pollution Control Bureau.
"We urge citizens to use caution while burning with their permits on allowed burning days," Bob Colby, director of the Air Pollution Control Bureau, said in a prepared statement.
Burning in a barrel is illegal unless you obtain a valid permit and are burning appropriate materials, according to the bureau.
