Chattanooga women’s soccer player Clare Latham was selected as the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Latham was instrumental in both of the Mocs’ goals in last week’s road win over Tennessee Tech. She scored UTC’s first goal to tie the match early in the second period. She also assisted the eventual game-winner as her shot was blocked and pitched to teammate Melanie Arredondo, who scored her second goal of the season.
The sophomore midfielder leads the team in scoring (10 points) and goals (4), and also has two assists on the season. She is tied for fifth in the league in scoring, fourth in points per game and fourth in goals.
An Early Childhood education major, Latham earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in each semester last year, and was named to the UTC Dean’s List and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. She was also selected to the Southern Conference Honor Roll for Academics a year ago.
The Mocs (4-3) open SoCon play Friday evening against Davidson at Finley Stadium. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
Henderson named SoCon Runner of the Week
Chattanooga sophomore Teghan Henderson was selected as the SoCon Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Henderson led the Lady Mocs to a second-place finish at the Georgia State Invitational, beating her nearest opponent by more than 18 seconds, winning the 4K event with a time of 14:07.
This is Henderson’s second straight win and her second SoCon Runner of the Week nod in as many weeks this season. UTC returns to action Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
