On Friday, crews worked to install panels for the climbing wall and public art facade, which will be part of the climbing gym in the old Bijou Theater.
"This started today and [it] is very exciting to see all the hard work that’s gone into the design," Jim Williamson, vice president of planning and development for downtown economic development organization River City Company, said via email.
The new facility is called The Block and will also be home to a new Rock/Creek store, according to archives.
Crews aim to have the northern half of the wall complete for the closing ceremony of RiverRocks, which is in mid-October.
The plan it to have the rest of the work complete by the end of October, he also said.
