Chattanooga sophomore Teghan Henderson and senior Lucas Cotter were selected as the Southern Conference Runners of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Henderson outran her nearest competitor by more than 25 seconds on Friday evening at the Mocs’ season-opening PowerAde Invitational. She ran the two-mile course in 10:58.10 — placing her time among the Top 5 at Moccasin Bend. Henderson took the lead from the gun and was never challenged, leading the women’s team to a win.
Cotter posted his best time ever at his home course of Moccasin Bend with a time of 15:35 — more than eight seconds faster than MTSU All-American Eliud Rutto, who placed second. He led UTC to a top-place finish, edging the Blue Raiders by four points.
Cotter, a two-time all-conference selection, returns to the course this year after his 2012 campaign was limited due to injury.
The Mocs return to action Friday, Sept. 20 at the Georgia State Invitational at the Nash Farm Battlefield Park in Hampton, Ga.
