Set in 1962, "The Sandlot" is a film about a group of friends who gather to play baseball. Behind the outfield fence is a yard that is notorious for housing "The Beast," an English mastiff that has achieved legendary status. One day, Scotty, the lead character, loses his dad’s Babe Ruth-autographed baseball over the fence and has to face The Beast.
Famous lines include "You play ball like a girl!" and "You’re killing me, Smalls!"
Film critic Roger Ebert said of the film: "The movie isn't about winning and losing, it's about growing up and facing your fears, and as the kids try one goofy plan after another to get the ball back, the story gently leaves the realm of the possible and ventures into the exaggerations common to all childhood legends."
Other September screenings include "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off" on Sept. 21 and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" on Sept. 28.
