The best from Week 1
Senior George Porter, Baylor
Porter accounted for all three touchdowns in the Red Raiders’ 21-7 win at Webb School of Knoxville Friday. The yards were a little harder to come by this week, but the 5-foot-9, 170-pound senior still finished with 182 of them on 26 carries, including touchdown runs from 13, seven and four yards out.
Senior James McClellan, Signal Mountain
The 6-foot, 250-pounder delivered another impressive performance Friday, piling up 199 yards on 26 carries in the Eagles’ 49-28 win over visiting Tyner. McLellan, who has carried 55 times for 352 yards and two touchdowns on the season, also broke a 70-yard touchdown run in the lopsided win.
Junior Hunter Maynor, Soddy-Daisy
Maynor's performance was pivotal in his team's win over Red Bank on Thursday, which marked the Trojans' first 2-0 start since 2008. The Bradley Central transfer completed 20 of his 31 pass attempts for 250 yards, and the junior found the end zone twice in the 21-7 victory —sophomore Tre Carter was on the receiving end of both.
Junior Anthony Turner, Ooltewah
The Owls couldn’t capture a victory over Seigel, but Turner came up huge in Friday’s shootout with the Stars. The junior receiver hauled in seven receptions for 163 yards in the 58-47 loss, including touchdown grabs of 69, 16, 21 and 11 yards.
Junior Kareem Orr, Notre Dame
Orr was the deciding factor in Friday’s 21-9 win over East Ridge, scoring all three Fighting Irish touchdowns. The versatile junior finished with four catches for 133 yards and a pair of scores, and, defensively, hauled in two interceptions, returning one 23 yards for a touchdown.
