Local company Garuda Screenprinting has recently settled on the North Shore, and leaders have planned an open house event at the River Street location, where staff members will offer tours, explanations of work processes and displays of prints and original art.
The open house will be held Sept. 7 from 5-8 p.m.
Garuda has been around since 2011, and the business specializes in apparel screenprinting and poster printing, according to Nooga.com archives.
Owner Mike Lester and his business partner, Mary Beth Sanders, work with clients such as area businesses and bands who want logos on T-shirts. The company can provide quotes for any apparel quantities.
The team also offers custom printing of stickers, posters and business cards.
Lester got his start in the screenprinting industry in 2001, he said. He worked at a place called Jakprints in Cleveland, Ohio, he said, according to archives.
When he first came to Chattanooga, a company called Young Monster was in town. But Lester said that company left about the time he arrived, so he started taking over some of that business.
Now, the team does work for local businesses and uses the medium for artistic purposes. They have some retail merchandise for sale, Lester said, according to archives.
Garuda recently created an original artwork for the cover of The Pulse's State of the Arts issue, just released Aug. 22.
In addition to creating original art and graphic design, Garuda's custom printing portfolio has expanded to include such local businesses as The Hot Chocolatier, Good Dog, the Chattanooga Skatepark Project, the Shaking Ray Levi Society and the city of Chattanooga's Green Trips Program, according to a news release.
Garuda staff has also contributed to the Creative Discovery Museum's teen programming through workshops, and they regularly work one-on-one with local artists and designers who have unique screenprinting projects.
Garuda leaders said that anyone from business owners who might need screenprinting services to artists interested in the printing process should attend the event.
Coupons on Garuda services will be available, and light refreshments will be served.
The studio, located at at 149B River St., is open Monday through Friday by appointment and can be reached at 423-602-8568.
