Attendance numbers are back to normal in Hamilton County schools, as school officials reported a grand total of 42,500 students across the county on the 10th day of school.
The total is 65 students more than last year's 10-day figure and represents the first time an attendance tally has shown a greater number of students than the year before. On the first day of school, 320 fewer students were recorded in classrooms, and on the fifth day, the figure was 63 students fewer than last school year.
Total attendance numbers for high schools are still down, with 87 fewer students than were recorded at the same point this past year. Both elementary and middle schools showed growth on the 10th day.
The 10-day enrollment figure is significant in that it will be used to help determine any staffing changes made in schools to address change. The school also uses its final, 20-day enrollment numbers to determine funding matters.
