The company's name can be a little confusing, but Chattanooga company Gold Bond Inc., which specializes in promotional products, isn't the same thing as Chattem's Gold Bond brand body creams and powders.
"As much as we love the stuff, we don't make Gold Bond foot powder or lotions—that's Chattem, another Chattanooga company," Gold Bond President Mark Godsey said via email.
His company sells directly to distributors, not the public, and its geographic location is part of what makes the business special. Being centrally located helps customers save money and time, he said.
"For the Chattanooga area, distributors and their customers benefit from being able to pick up orders the same day they are produced, which can result in a 100 percent savings in freight," he said.
The business has grown from a small pencil company to a company with 300 full-time employees.

How long has Gold Bond been in Chattanooga? Tell me a little background—who started the company? How has it evolved over the years, if at all?
Established in 1947 as a local pencil manufacturer, the Kingston Pencil Corporation was later acquired by Don Godsey in 1979 and renamed after its premier line of pencil, the Gold Bond Line. In 2008, Gold Bond was purchased by Mark Godsey and Mitch Henderson, the two highest-ranking executives. From its inception as a small pencil company, Gold Bond has grown to a Counselor top 40 supplier operating out of three facilities on two continents.
