Lady Mocs tennis team rolls over Murray State

The Chattanooga women’s tennis team posted its third straight win on Wednesday afternoon, a 7-0 shutout over Murray State at the UTC Tennis Courts. The Lady Mocs improved to 12-2 this spring with the win, while the Racers fell to 4-7.

UTC took a 1-0 advantage by winning the first two doubles matches. Junior Alexa Flynn and freshman Kelsey Coots posted an 8-1 victory over Megan Blue and Carla Suga at No. 2, while sophomore Claire Mulyadi and freshman Jovana Pecovski teamed up for an 8-3 win over Erin Patton and Susan Stoltz at No. 3. 

The Lady Mocs also rolled through singles competition, winning every match in straight sets, starting with Coots’ (6-0, 6-1) win at No. 4. The freshman from Huntsville, Ala., has now won three straight to improve to 10-3 this spring and 18-6 overall. 

Flynn put UTC on top 3-0 with her (6-4, 6-0) victory over Blue at No. 3, and Mulyadi clinched the win with a (6-1, 6-2) win over Carolyn Huerth at No. 5. 

The Lady Mocs also received singles wins from sophomore Kaylene Chadwell at No. 1, freshman Kayla Jones at No. 2 and Pecovski at No. 6

Chattanooga returns to action Saturday when it hosts Wofford (2 p.m.) at the UTC Tennis Courts.
