The Chattanooga women’s tennis team received its first national ranking as a Division I program on Wednesday, checking in at No. 67 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division I Women’s Team Rankings.
“This is a big accomplishment for our program,” UTC coach Jeff Clark said. “We still have a lot of work to do this season, but to see our student-athletes get recognized for their hard work is great for UTC tennis. This program has a tremendous amount of tradition, including six national championships at the AIAW and Division II level, so it's great to see us getting noticed on a national level again.”
The Lady Mocs are coming off a narrow victory at No. 59 Elon on Sunday, clawing their way back to edge the Phoenix 4-3 after dropping all three doubles matches to start the day.
Chattanooga is 10-2 overall and 2-2 in Southern Conference play this spring, including a school-record five straight shutouts, while the Lady Mocs are an impressive 61-10 in singles play.
UTC returns to action Wednesday at Mercer.
