OPELIKA, Ala. — The Chattanooga men’s golf team is in seventh place after 18 holes on Monday in the Tiger Invitational at the Grand National Golf Club Lake Course. UTC shot 10-over par 298 and is two shots behind sixth-plac Memphis.
Junior Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) led the Mocs at par 72 for the rain-plagued round. He made four birdies and four bogeys to go along with 10 pars and is tied for sixth, three strokes behind South Alabama’s Michael Garretson, who leads at 69.
Fellow junior Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) came up big after a slow start. He was plus three after opening bogey-double bogey on his first two holes. He was four over through 15 before an eagle on the par five fourth hole and a birdie on the fifth got him back to a 1-over 73 finish. He is tied for 13th.
Junior Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) and senior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) rounded out the counting scores. Bunn shot 76 while Fox checked in at 77. Sophomore Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) shot the drop score with an 80.
East Carolina ended the weather-shortened day in front at 290 (+2). It has a two-shot lead over Mississippi State (292) in second and three-stroke cushion on No. 24 Wake Forest and Kennesaw State at 293.
Because of weather delays, a 36-hole shotgun start will close out the tournament on Tuesday.
