The Chattanooga softball team grabbed a pair of wins on the opening day of the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. The Lady Mocs plated 18 runs on 30 hits on Friday afternoon, rolling to lopsided victories over Toledo and Wagner.
Taylor Deason picked up her 10th win of the season in UTC’s 9-0 rout over the Rockets, while freshman Rachel Albritton notched the first win of her career in her the Lady Mocs' 9-2 victory over the Seahawks.
Chattanooga 9, Toledo 0
Six Lady Mocs’ recorded multiple hits in the team’s shutout victory over the Rockets, while Deason (10-6) scattered four hits while striking out five in seven innings of work—the right-handed sophomore’s first complete-game win of the season.
Senior Sara Poteat and freshman Alyssa Taylor each went 4-for-5 at the plate with a pair of runs scored, while Taylor finished the game with five runs batted in.
Chattanooga 9, Wagner 2
UTC wasted little time in game two, grabbing a three-run lead after two innings before eventually extending its advantage to as big as 7-0. Stephanie Rieck went 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in and a run scored, while Poteat and junior Stephanie Rieck each collected a pair of hits.
Albritton (1-1) allowed two runs off four hits, striking out six in six innings on the mound, while freshman Kaisey Carson pitched the final inning in relief.
