Chad's Records is going to merge with the North Shore's Winder Binder Gallery and Bookstore.

"This Saturday, we'll have at least the majority of the rock section and the new releases," owner of Frazier Avenue’s Winder Binder Gallery and Bookstore David Smotherman said. "We'll have enough selection to make it worth people's while this weekend."

Smotherman and owner of Chad's Records Chad Bledsoe are cousins.

And Bledsoe inspired Smotherman to follow his dream and open his store. Smotherman always wanted to have records at his location but didn't want to compete against family.

Smotherman said he has thought on and off for years about the stores combining, and the recent fire was sort of a sign.

At the end of February, the café next door to Chad's burned.

The only thing separating the café, which is called Toast, from Chad’s is an interior wall, but firefighters managed to prevent the fire from burning Chad's, according to the news release.

The business had smoke damage, but most of the merchandise appeared to be undamaged, also according to the release.

Bledsoe and Smotherman are going to move records and other merchandise over to the North Shore weekly.

Currently, Chad's Records is in a space of about 900 square feet. At Winder Binder, he will have about 500 square feet of the store's 5,000 square feet.
