The office for Mayor Ron Littlefield announced Monday the mayor would give his final State of the City address next Monday, March 11.

The speech, which is open to the public, will take place in the Community Theater of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium at 399 McCallie Ave. It will come nearly one week after Littlefield's successor is determined in the March 5 municipal election.

In a news release, Littlefield was quoted saying he planned to reflect on his eight years in the mayor's office.

"Serving as mayor is a humbling experience, and I want to thank the community for their support over the years," Littlefield said. "We have accomplished a lot of things, some not popular but necessary in the continued good governance of any municipality."

Littlefield, who served several years on the City Council, was elected mayor in 2005.
