Chattanooga’s Jenna Nurik was named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Month for February, the league office announced Monday.
She went 6-0 in singles action during the month of February, and recorded a 4-1 record in doubles play, helping the Lady Mocs off to a 6-0 start.
Nurik, named the SoCon Player of the Week on Feb. 12, has an overall record of 9-1 this spring. She has occupied the No. 1 spot in singles while competing at Nos. 1 and 2 in doubles, along with sophomore Kaylene Chadwell.
Nurik, a senior from Roswell, Ga., won each of her singles matches in straight sets, starting with her (6-2, 6-4) win over Middle Tennessee State’s Yuri Nomoto on Feb. 1, which helped Chattanooga snapp its 13-match losing streak to the Blue Raiders.
The following day, Nurik rolled to a (6-2, 6-0) win over Lipscomb’s Deahna Welcher, and she also picked up singles wins against Austin Peay, UT-Martin, UAB and Jacksonville State.
In doubles action, Nurik and Chadwell started the month with a disappointing loss to MTSU, but the duo strung together four straight wins, including an 8-0 blowout victory over Austin Peay’s Alison Carre and Vanessa Tavares on Feb. 8.
At 9-1 this spring, UTC is off to its best start since the 1991 season.
