BOONE, N.C. — The Chattanooga women’s tennis team suffered its first loss of the spring season with Friday evening’s 4-2 loss at Appalachian State.

The Lady Mocs fell to 8-1 on the year after dropping their Southern Conference opener, while the Mountaineers improved to 8-1.

UTC dropped the doubles point for the first time all season, losing two of the three closely-contested matches. Senior Jenna Nurik and sophomore Kaylene Chadwell defeated Clark Cox and Jennifer Ansari (8-7 (1)) at No. 2 for the team’s lone doubles win.

Chadwell and freshman Kayla Jones each posted singles wins, accounting for both of the Lady Mocs’ points. Jones remained unbeaten in singles with an impressive (6-0, 6-1) victory over Ansari at No. 2, while Nurik and sophomore Claire Mulyadi both lost their first singles matches of the season.

UTC returns to action Sunday with a match against Western Carolina at the UTC Tennis Courts.
