Eight Chattanooga-area basketball teams advance to Sectionals
Eight Chattanooga-area girl’s and boy’s basketball teams made it to the semifinalsof this week’s region tournaments, advancing to the sub-state round, which will be held on Saturday and Monday evenings, respectively.
Three area girl’s team—Silverdale Baptist, East Hamilton and Bradley Central—advanced to Saturday’s Sectional match ups.
The Lady Seahawks (20-10), who fell to Whitwell 65-41 in Wednesday’s Region 3-A title game, travel to Jackson County to face the Lady Blue Devils (29-3), while East Hamilton (24-10), which had its 13-game win streak snapped in Wednesday's Region 3-AA title, also hits the road Saturday to face Livingston Academy (29-6).
Bradley Central (28-2), which captured its third straight Region 3-AAA title with Thursday’s 53-42 win over White County, is the only area girl’s team that will host its Sectional, when the Lady Bears welcome Region 4-AAA runner-up Blackman (26-4).
In boy’s action, Boyd-Buchanan, Howard and Bradley Central, each won their respective region tournaments, while Grace Baptist and Ooltewah will also play on, but the two region runners-up will do so on the road.
Boyd-Buchanan (26-7), which knocked off Grace for the third time this season in Thursday’s Region 3-A title game at Sale Creek, hosts Region 4-A runner-up Clarkrange (17-18) in Monday’s Sectional, while Grace (12-14) heads to Watertown to face the 4-A champion Purple Tigers (29-3).
Howard (26-5), which extended its win streak to seven games with Thursday’s one-point win over McMinn Central in the Region 3-AA championship game, hosts DeKalb County (30-6) on Monday.
The Bradley Central boys (19-12), who took down Ooltewah in the 3-AAA title game on Thursday, hosts Region 4-AAA runner-up Siegel (27-5) on Monday, while the Owls (19-10) travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to take on unbeaten Blackman (29-0)..
