Gas prices in February have risen to record highs, but consumers can expect relief soon, CNN reported today

The current national average as of Feb. 28 at 3:05 a.m. was $3.78 a gallon for regular gas.

This time last year, it was $3.73, according to AAA's gas gauge.

In Tennessee, the average for regular gas was $3.61 Thursday. Last year, it was $3.59.

Last year, the record high was $3.60 a gallon, according to CNN.

The prices rose because crews did major maintenance projects on some of the nation's refineries, but as the work is completed, the prices should decrease, CNN reported.

The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that the high gas prices could impact the stock market.
