HUMBLE, Tex. — The Chattanooga men’s golf team shot 295 (+7) in Sunday’s final round to move up to a tie for fifth finish at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship. The event was played on Redstone Golf Club’s Tournament Course, the site of the PGA Tour’s Shell Houston Open.
Senior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) led the Mocs, tying for 18th at one-over par 217. He shot consistent rounds of 72, 73 and 72 for his total. Junior Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) was just as solid in tying for 22nd, a stroke back at 218 (+2). He carded scores of 73, 72 and 73.
Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) was one more shot behind Fox tying for 25th at 219 (+3). After opening the tournament shooting 69 and 71, Johnston struggled with a 7-over par 79 Sunday. He recorded the final round drop score for the team.
Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) tied Fox for the team lead on Sunday with a 72. He tied for 46th at 223. Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) rounded out the team scoring with a 78 for a three-day total of 234.
No. 3 Texas ran away with the title, shooting 22-under 842. The Longhorns won by 21 over co-host Houston at 863, while South Carolina took third at plus seven (871). UT’s Brandon Stone shot 67 (-5) today to win medalist honors at 207 (-9), three strokes clear of teammate and runner-up Julio Vegas at 210 (-6).
