The Chattanooga women’s tennis team continued its hot start to the team’s non-conference schedule this spring, cruising to a 7-0 shutout over Jacksonville State on Saturday. The Lady Mocs improve to 8-0 on the year, the program’s best start since 1991.
UTC has posted shutouts in six of the eight wins this season, while it is 46-1 in singles action, only allowing two points in eight matches. Chattanooga also has an impressive 18-3 mark in doubles competition.
The Lady Mocs jumped out to 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point Saturday as freshmen Kayla Jones and Allison Storie made quick work of their opponents with an 8-2 win at No. 3.
Senior Jenna Nurik and sophomore Kaylene Chadwell followed that with an 8-4 victory at No. 1, while junior Alexa Flynn and Claire Mulyadi fought off a late charge from Zoe Bizinos and Olivia Nguyen at No. 2. The UTC duo took the tiebreaker 7-4, though, along with an 8-7 win.
Jones, Mulyadi and Nurik each improved to 8-0 in singles action this spring with straight-set wins on Saturday. Jones leads the team with a 19-2 overall record, while Nurik and Mulyadi both grabbed their 13th wins this spring.
Freshmen Katie Polk and Jovana Pecovski won at No. 5 and No. 6, while Chadwell won the No. 2 match.
The Lady Mocs return to action Tuesday when they host Lee University at 2:30 p.m.
