The Chattanooga wrestling team wrapped up at least a share of the Southern Conference regular-season Championship with a pair of league wins on Saturday at Maclellan Gym. The Mocs grabbed 19 of 20 matches to defeat Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Virginia Military Institute by a combined score of 76-3.
UTC (7-9, 5-1 SoCon) welcomes Campbell on Monday at 6 p.m. for a chance to win its 27th SoCon title since joining the league in 1978.
VMI and SIUE opened Saturday’s action with a 10 a.m. match—the Keydests taking a 32-12 victory—then the Mocs rolled through the Cougars in their noon match. Seniors Josh Condon and Robertson Prigmore both posted pins in the team’s 40-3 win.
Condon, who also forced a fall in the win over VMI, has scored 36 points in six SoCon matches this season—five pins and a forfeit—and he’s 8-4 overall on the season.
Senior Dean Pavlou, along with juniors Alex Hudson and Niko Brown, also scored bonus points in the SIUE match, while sophomore Nick Soto racked up six points.
Brown also had a pin in the VMI match, improving his record to 26-3 on the year. He came into the match ranked No. 18 in the nation at 197, and remains undefeated in duals competition at 14-0.
Soto, currently No. 17 in the country at 125, earned a technical fall against VMI, improving his record to 24-6.
Freshman Alex Ward got in the lineup against SIUE at 133, capturing a 5-3 decision over Patrick Meyers, while Trey Stavrum and freshman John Lampe also posted a pair of wins.
