Chattanooga’s Jenna Nurik was selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played through Feb. 10, the league office announced Tuesday.
Nurik is 5-0 in singles action this spring, and she’s helped lead the Lady Mocs to a 5-0 start for the first time since 1991. UTC has won in decisive fashion this spring, too, posting four straight shutout victories for the first time in school history.
While competing at No. 1 singles, Nurik has won all five of her matches in straight sets. She captured a (6-2, 6-4) victory over Middle Tennessee State’s Yuiri Nomoto to help Chattanooga earn its first win over the Blue Raiders since 1991, snapping a 13-match losing streak to the in-state rival.
After defeating Lipscomb’s Deahna Welcher (6-2, 6-0), Nurik cruised to a comfortable (6-3, 6-2) win over Austin Peay’s Alison Carre (6-3, 6-2) on Friday.
Nurik and teammate Kaylene Chadwell are 4-1 for the Lady Mocs in doubles action this spring. The duo’s only loss was against MTSU, but the two responded with wins over Lipscomb’s Welcher and Jenny Brock (8-6) and Austin Peay’s Carre and Vannessa Tavares (8-0).
UTC returns to action Saturday when it hosts Lee University at the Champions Club.
