The Chattanooga men’s tennis team improved to 5-2 this spring with Sunday’s 6-1 win at Murray State, bouncing back from Friday’s narrow loss to Austin Peay.

The Mocs, who are 5-0 when winning the doubles point, took two of the three doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead, then won all but one singles match on the day.

Seniors Roberto Vieira and Stephen Crofford teamed up for the first time on Sunday, making quick work of Joao Camara and Tyler Jeffers in the duo’s 8-2 win, while freshmen Gino Delavalle and John Peacey clinched the point with their 8-6 win over Nicholas Mitric and Mac McLean.

Senior Manuel Barreotavena improved to 7-0 in singles action this spring with his (6-1, 6-2) win over Jeffers at No. 2, while Jackson Tresnan also remained unbeaten with a (6-1, 6-2) victory over Mitric at No. 6.

Senior Chris Smith won his second match in the last three with a three-set victory over Camara. Smith, who dropped the first set 6-0, bounced back to blank Camara in the second before winning the decisive third set 6-2.

Sophomore Pavels Grigorjevs and senior Ankit Chopra also picked up singles wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

The Mocs return home next weekend, hosting Lee University at the Champions Club on Saturday at noon.
