The Chattanooga wrestling team remained unbeaten in Southern Conference Play with Sunday’s 29-9 win at Appalachian State. The Mocs took eight of the 10 matches, including a pin and four shutouts, against the Mountaineers, who snapped UTC’s 39-match, regular-season SoCon winning streak last season.

Sophomore Nick Soto, ranked No. 18 in the nation at 125, opened up the action with a 10-2 major decision over Dominic Parisi. Appalachian State took match at 133 when Brett Boston pinned freshman Marvin Lopez, giving the Mountaineers a 6-4 advantage.

Senior Dean Pavlou put the Mocs back out in front 8-6 with another major decision at 141, topping Chris Johnson 13-4. Junior Alex Hudson shut out Zach Ketcher 4-0 at 149, followed by sophomore Trey Stavrum’s 5-0 victory over Aaron Scott at 157.

Senior Josh Condon continued his hot streak with a third-period pin at 165, improving to 3-0 in SoCon matches with three pins. Freshman Sean Mappes spotted UTC a 23-6 lead with his 7-2 decision over Colin Hedash at 174, then ASU’s Jake Johnson captured an overtime win against senior Robert Prigmore. That was the Mountaineers’ last points of the afternoon, though.

Senior Niko Brown improved to 22-3 overall and 11-0 in dual matches with his shutout at 197, besting Paul Weiss 4-0. Sophomore Kevin Malone closed out the contest with a 5-0 win over Joe Cummings at heavyweight.
