Wondering what to do tonight? No need to check your planner—we’ve got your daily post on what’s happening around town.

To frack or not to frack
Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is an energy production process in which a pressurized fluid is applied to underground rock layers in order to release petroleum or natural gas through the newly formed fractures in the rock. The proponents of fracking characterize it as the clean alternative to mining and drilling, while the opponents argue the process creates unignorable consequences for groundwater aquifers.

Tonight, Outdoor Chattanooga host a Sustainable Chattanooga talk about fracking in Hamilton County. University of Tennessee at Chattanooga professors Joe Wilferth and Henry Spratt of the English and microbiology departments, respectively, will present the ABCs of the energy source production and the acquisition of 750 acres of private property by the company Atlas Energy.
