Chattanooga Fire Department battles commercial fire on Amnicola

Shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday night, Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a reported commercial fire at Zeco Inc., located at 4146 S. Creek Road.

The reports of the large fire off of Amnicola Highway were called in to the 911 Communications Center, and Station 10 from Wisdom Street was the first company on the scene.

Capt. Chip O'Dell said the backside of the building was engulfed in flames upon arrival, and a chain-link fence initially kept the firefighters from being able to get too close. After cutting a lock off of a fence gate, the firefighters began a more intense battle, and other fire companies began to arrive on the scene.

Quint 10 raised its aerial to get a master stream of water hitting the most intense part of the blaze, and other firefighters used a K-12 metal-cutting power saw to get into the building. They took in handheld hose lines to make an interior attack on the blaze, and all in all, it took eight fire companies 45 minutes to get the blaze under control.

No one was injured, officials said.

Lt. Henry McElvain with the Fire Investigation Division said the business was closed for the night, and no employees were thought to be there when the fire broke out.

An estimate on the dollar loss was not available, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
