Chattanooga’s Ashlen Dewart has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Month for her performance in the Mocs’ 3-1 stretch during the month of December, when she averaged 18.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest.
UTC opened the month with an 83-40 win over Furman on Dec. 1 at McKenzie Arena, in which Dewart scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds. The transfer from Appalachian State scored 19 points and had eight boards in the Lady Mocs’ 72-58 win at Auburn, and she just missed out on a double-double in Chattanooga’s 72-59 win over Jacksonville State with 22 points and nine rebounds. Dewart scored a team-best 13 points in the Lady Mocs’ lone loss, 53-40 setback at Auburn.
The redshirt junior shot 64 percent from the floor and was 11-for-16 from the free-throw line. She had just seven turnovers in the entire month while averaging 27.8 minutes per game.
Other nominees included Appalachian State’s Maryah Syndor, College of Charleston’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon’s Kelsey Evans, Samford’s Shelby Campbell and Wofford’s Daniella Motley.
Appalachian State’s Courtney Freeman received the honor for the month of November.
