There are handmade, heirloom advent calendars and store-bought, paper calendars, red and green calendars and striped calendars and polka dotted calendars.

Regardless of the form, the excitement of opening a package every day to count down the days until Christmas never fails to delight both the young and the old.

The Chattanooga gift advent calendar offers a daily suggestion for a local purchase to bring a little piece of the Scenic City to the holiday hoard under the tree.

Day 10
Amid the hustle and bustle, the sound of steaming milk, the packing of espresso and the shouting of morning orders at The Camp House, there is a distinct aroma wafting through the air. Rather than the chocolatey or nutty scents of the typical coffee shop, this aroma opens up like a bouquet of flowers.

The source? Hacienda La Esmeralda’s Geisha variety, a bean roasted by Counter Culture Coffee and brewed in Chattanooga exclusively at The Camp House. Based on the North Carolina company’s reputation for above-average quality—a consistent track record of high ranking on the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s best micro-roasters—the Southside cafe serves only Counter Culture Coffee.

The featured beans come from Papua New Guinea, Ethiopia, Ecuador and every other corner of the world. The company is also keen to cultivate a coffee culture of sustainability by developing direct trade relationships with the individual farms.

In addition to sampling the brews cup by cup in a latte or pour-over pot, coffee enthusiasts and purists can purchase bags of beans.
