Chattanooga senior Niko Brown was named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competitions Nov. 7-13 the league office announced Wednesday.
Brown went 4-0 with one pin while winning the 197-pound title at the Wolfpack Open in Raleigh, N.C., over the weekend. He improved to 12-1 on the season.
Brown began the competition with a pin of NC State’s Josh Lackey (1:48), then earned three straight decisions, knocking off Virginia Tech’s Darren Hankins (7-4), West Virginia’s A.J. Vizcarrondo (7-2) and Old Dominion’s Kevin Beasley (6-4) to claim the title.
The award is Brown’s second of his career. He earned the honor in the second week of last season as well. Brown is the second Moc wrestler to take the award in as many weeks as teammate Nick Soto received the honor last week.
Chattanooga returns to action Friday when it host Cumerland and No. 2 Iowa at Maclelland Gym.
