Lady Mocs receive five letters of intent Wednesday

Chattanooga’s women’s basketball team signed five players during Wednesday’s early signing period. 

The Lady Mocs received National Letters of Intent from 6-foot guard Moses Johnson, 6-2 center Ansley Chilton, 5-8 guard Whitney Hartlage, 5-10 guard Ayanna Gilbert and 6-1 forward Jasmine Joyner. 

Johnson, a senior at Greenforest-McCalep Christian Academy in Decatur, Ga., averaged 28 points and six assists last season. She recored her 1000th point last January and had a 45-point game. Johnson earned Class A All-State Honorable Mention from the Georgia Sports Writers Association and the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Chilton, a senior at Dade County High School in Trenton, Ga., is expected to redshirt next season. She earned 7-AA All-Region recognition for the Lady Wolverines as a junior while averaging 11.8 points and eight rebounds.

Hartlage, a senior at Mercy Academy in Louisville, Ky., was a member of the 2010 Kentucky State Championship team and helped her team to a 27-6 record as a junior, which included the District 24 title and runner-up finish in the 6th Region Tournament. She scored 33 points in a region tournament game last season. 

Gilbert, a senior at Columbia Central High School in Columbia, Tenn., is in her first season with the Lady Lions after transferring from Lawrence County. Gilbert helped the Lady Wildcats to the Class AAA state tournament with a 27-7 record last season, averaging over 15 points per game.

Joyner is a four-year starter at Southaven High School in Southaven, Miss. She averaged 10 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.3 blocks per game. She was selected to the Clarion Ledger Mississippi Girls “Dandy Dozen” team.
