Although Veterans Day was officially Sunday, leaders with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee commemorated the holiday Friday in a ceremony, honoring hundreds of veterans who work at the company.

The event featured a special guest, retired Maj. Gen. Elder Granger, M.D. with the U.S. Army, who led at every level of the Army Medical Department.

He also served as the deputy director and program executive officer of the TRICARE Management Activity, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense in Health Affairs, where he oversaw the acquisition, operation and integration of the Department of Defense’s managed care program within the military health system.

In the United States, Veterans Day is observed Nov. 11. When it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is designated as a holiday.
