Chattanooga starter Matt Magill tossed seven shutout innings Thursday night to lead the Lookouts to a 4-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns at AT&T Field.
Magill (4-2) allowed two lone hits, struck out 10 and didn’t surrender a walk. He threw 51 strikes on 82 pitches before being replaced by Allen Webster for the game’s final two innings.
The Lookouts are riding a five-game winning streak and have won eight out of their last nine games. The team’s record, at 24-23, has crept over .500 for the first time this season and Chattanooga is now four games back in the Southern League North Division.
A day after hitting the key home run in the Lookouts’ 6-3 come-from-behind win on Wednesday, Brahiam Maldonado went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. His two-run, ground-rule double pushed Chattanooga’s lead to 4-0 in Thursday’s victory.
Jacksonville starter Bryan Evans (0-4) took the loss. He went six innings, giving up three runs on three hits.
The Lookouts and Suns will continue their five-game series on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
