Deadline for ordering Tennessee Civil War license plate approaches

The Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association has announced the final push for Tennesseans to sign up for the new Tennessee Civil War 150th anniversary license plate. 

The TCWPA, a nonprofit partnering organization with the Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, is the sponsor of the proposed plate designed to honor the sacrifice of the 230,000 Tennesseans who fought in the Civil War.

In making the announcement, TCWPA President Jim Danley said, “While we’ve received a tremendous response across the state to sign up for the plates, we’re nearing a deadline in a few months and remind Tennesseans that now is the time to sign up for the plate so that we can meet our required order of 1,000. If we don’t meet this required goal, we’re in danger of losing the commemorative plate.”

As part of the commission’s 150th legacy, proceeds from the plate will help preserve Tennessee Civil War battlefields. A portion of the purchase will go to the home county of each participant to support the Tennessee Civil War Trails program, helping local communities fund signage and provide for ongoing maintenance.

Susan Whitaker, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development commissioner and co-chair of the commission, said that by displaying this license plate, “Tennesseans will be able to convey their deep appreciation for our state’s Civil War heritage that touches every county in Tennessee."
