Eighty-two students at the Wacker Institute received conditional job offers from Wacker Polysilicon to be chemical operators.
"Our plants are not our only investment priority," Dr. Konrad Bachhuber, vice president and site manager for Wacker Polysilicon North America, said in a news release. "We also invest in the people who operate our plants, who maintain and repair them and who think about how we can become even better."
These students are in their second or third semesters at Chattanooga State Community College's Wacker Institute.
They have two or three additional semesters remaining to complete the program.
Bachhuber said the investment in people is part of the reason for the Wacker Institute.
Information sessions will be held at the Wacker Institute beginning Feb. 15 and recurring every Wednesday from noon until 1 p.m. and every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. in the Resource Room.
These sessions will be held every week until April 23.
Because of the limited number of seats, attendees are asked to RSVP to Deanna Swiney at 697-2601.
"We want you, one day, to rank among the very best in this business," he said. "We will equip you with the necessary skills for a successful career in one of the world’s most exciting and fastest-growing industries—for now, at the Wacker Institute, and later, on the job in our new plant.”
An employment incentive of $3,000 will be given to this group of students upon hire.
Eligible new hires will receive this incentive within the first 60 days of employment at Wacker Polysilicon.
The students who received the job offers from Wacker Polysilicon are currently enrolled in the chemical engineering technology associate’s degree program at the Wacker Institute.
Their jobs with Wacker Polysilicon North America begin either January or April 2013.
"We are committed to this program at Chattanooga State, and we are committed to our students at the Wacker Institute," Dr. Erika Burk, human resources director for Wacker Polysilicon North America, said. "This conditional job offer is an expression of that commitment."
The job offer is conditional upon a background check, drug screening, pre-employment physical and 3.0 GPA. Students must obtain their degrees.
Those interested in learning more about the Wacker Institute are encouraged to attend a public information session and tour at Chattanooga State.
