Among the most recognized deep-sea explorers, Dr. Bob Ballard is best known for his historic discoveries of the Titanic, the German battleship Bismarck, the existence of hydrothermal vents and numerous shipwrecks around the world.
And he will be in Chattanooga Feb. 16.
Ballard inspires young people to pursue learning in science, math and technology through exploration and discovery. He does so at the Institute for Exploration’s Nautilus Live Theater and exhibit hall in Mystic, Conn., and via the Internet through his Jason Foundation for Education.
Ballard and his team of scientists explore uncharted frontiers in the deep ocean aboard the research vessel E/V Nautilus. Using advanced "telepresence" technology, Ballard’s team is able to make biological and archaeological discoveries, map the deepest sea floors and instantly share these groundbreaking missions with others around the world.
Ballard will give two presentations while in Chattanooga. The first will be an education outreach program for high school and university students hosted at UTC’s Roland Hayes Auditorium at 11 a.m. Later that evening, he will speak to a general audience at the Tennessee Aquarium.
